MaterialsEach oil palette knife portrait is created with:
- professional oil paints
- stretched canvas
- palette knife texture / impasto technique
- painted canvas edges
- artist’s signature
- certificate of authenticity
- careful protective packaging for shipping
I usually paint the edges of the canvas as part of the artwork. This means the portrait can be displayed without a frame, especially if you prefer a clean contemporary look.
FramingA frame is not required because the sides of the canvas are painted and finished. You can hang the portrait directly on the wall.
If you would like a framed portrait, I can also arrange framing in a suitable baguette frame before shipping. This option is discussed individually, depending on the artwork size, frame style and destination country.
TimelineAn oil portrait takes more time than watercolor because oil paint needs time to dry before safe shipping.
The painting process usually takes around 1–2 weeks, depending on the size and complexity. After the portrait is finished, I need at least 3–4 additional weeks for the upper layer of oil paint to become dry enough for careful packing and shipping.
The exact drying time depends on the season, temperature, humidity and thickness of the paint layers. This waiting period is important: it helps protect the surface of the painting so the portrait can travel safely and the texture will not be damaged or smeared during shipping.
Oil paint continues to cure over time, but I ship the artwork only when the surface is safe enough to pack professionally.
