They had been grazing on the hillside for most of the day, slowly and unhurriedly, as it happens in places where time itself does not rush. The snow had only just melted; the grass was yellow and dry, and the air smelled of dampness, cold, and silence. Usually, nothing happens on days like this.
But suddenly, down below, right by the path, something changed.
At first, the white sheep simply lifted her head. Her ears twitched slightly, not from fear, but from curiosity. The world was too calm, and within this quiet scene something new appeared: a soft sound, a movement, a presence. She took a step forward.
The black sheep noticed and stopped as well. If one sheep becomes curious, it is worth taking a look. She moved closer, staying near, almost shoulder to shoulder. It is always calmer together.
It was not dangerous. Not a wolf. Not a storm. Not a loud voice.
Just a person standing motionless, like another tree at the edge of the field. He did not walk toward them. He waited.
The sheep came closer. Closer still. They wanted to understand: why did this stranger not disturb the silence? Why did he look at the world as calmly as they did every day?
They stopped very near.
They watched for a long time, attentively, in the way only animals can, without thoughts, but with full presence. And perhaps they were simply curious about who, this time, was watching life as quietly as they were.
